Antti PELTOMÄKI

Deputy Director DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, European Commission

Mr Antti Peltomäki is Deputy Director-General of the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General since February 2012. In this function, Mr. Peltomäki is responsible for regulatory policy including internal market and standardisation, sustainable growth and EU 2020 which includes industrial innovation and mobility industries, textiles, chemicals, metals, mechanical, electrical industries, raw materials, tourism and key enabling technologies.

Before that, Mr Peltomäki was Deputy Director-General in the Information Society and Media Directorate General where he was firstly responsible for research cooperation in the context of the seventh research framework (2007-2013) and thereafter for regulatory policy in the telecommunications, media and internet fields.

Mr Peltomäki has also worked as Head of the Commission's representation in Helsinkiin 2006 – 2007.

Prior to joining the Commission in 2006, Mr Peltomäki worked for almost ten years in the office of the Prime Minister of Finland, initially as State Under-Secretary, then State Secretary for EU affairs.

A lawyer by training, Mr Peltomäki began his career as a coordinator of international research and training courses at the Helsinki University of Technology.

Tineke NETELENBOS

Digital Champion, Chair of Digivaardig & Digiveilig

"We want to convince the Dutch people of the importance of having e-skills, so they can navigate safely, and tell them that without ICT-skills it is impossible to work in a modern society".

Tineke Netelenbos is former Minister of Transport and present chair of "Digivaardig & Digiveilig", a public private programme which promotes digital skills.

She was appointed as the Dutch eSkills ambassador by the European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry in 2010 and became Digital Champion at the invitation of Neelie Kroes (European Commission, DG Connect) and Maxime Verhagen (former Dutch Minister of Economic affairs) in 2012.

Susan MARTIN

Director Global Certification, SAP

Sue Martin is Global Certification Director for SAP and has been responsible for driving the major transformation of the SAP Global Certification Strategy to a leading edge business enabler since 2006.

Prior to joining SAP, Sue spent several years providing certification consulting services to companies and institutions as well as building and managing European operations to support global certification programs. She has spent the last 15 years in the certification industry, including positions as Regional Manager for Central & Eastern Europe for Drake Prometric, Head of EMEA Business Development Pearson VUE and Director of International Operations for Computer Adaptive Technologies.

Sue is currently European Chair of the Association of Test Publishers, which is responsible for driving consistent testing standards across the globe.

Jan MUEHLFEIT

Chairman Europe Microsoft Corporation

Jan Muehlfeit is an ICT industry veteran and almost 19 years at Microsoft. He served in different positions in Microsoft Czech/Slovak subsidiary between 1993 and 2000, led CEE region in 2000-2005. He became Vice President of Microsoft’s Public Sector team in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in 2005, Vice President, EMEA Corporate & Government Strategy in 2006 and later Chairman Europe, Microsoft Corporation. Mr. Muehlfeit is a Vice-Chair of the Academy of Business in Society (ABiS), board member of JA, Co-Chairman of the European e-Skills Association and a member of the Board of AIESEC and Ovum advisory body. Jan Muehlfeit has been serving in different advisory boards of several European governments in the field of ICT, national competitiveness and education. He also represents Microsoft on the TABD, the Transatlantic Business Dialogue and is involved in his advisory capacity in different projects of WEF, OECD and European Policy Center (EPC). He is also a board member of Czech National museum and member of IBLF Leaders Council. He graduated from Czech Technical University and later on completed executive development programs at Wharton, LSE and Harvard.

Terry HOOK

Managing Director, Click-IT-Skills

Terry is the Managing Director of Clock-IT-Skills. He has over forty years experience within the Information Technology and Communication Industry sector.

He has held many senior positions including, IBM Technical Education Manager for Northern Europe with responsibility for a multi million pound revenue stream. He has extensive man management experience obtain as the IBM UK Central Services Manager, managing over three hundred ICT professional staff, including twelve mangers. He is a former Director of the SFIA Foundation and Skills Executive member of e-skills UK, a government licensed organization, dedicated to ICT skills development.

Terry is an active member of many European e-skills development initiatives and is one of the founding team that created the European e-competence framework.

Silvia LEAL

Corporate Technology Director, Geoban SA (part of Santander Group) and Director of ICT programs at IE Business School, Madrid

Silvia Leal works for the Geoban Group (Backoffice of Banco Santander) as Corporate Technology Director. With more than 18 years of experience in IT, she has held many senior positions in international leader companies such as SAP and Amdocs. She collaborates with CIONET and Thinking Heads, where she is an Advisory Committee Member. She obtained a PhD Cum Laude on Innovation, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

She also works for IE Business School as Director of the ICT and Digital Innovation Programs, and as Technology and Information Systems professor. She is conducting a recognized research through which a new “3 Dimensions Model” has been developed to provide a more powerful means to help organizations to manage the IT innovation process. She is also studying a Coaching Program, and is a frequent speaker at conferences and author of several articles included in international magazines (e.g. Forbes India, Computerworld…).

Wilfried BERLIN

ICT Education Manager, AIRBUS

Wilfried Berlin works at Airbus Operations GmbH as Education Manager. Since 1985 he held different positions at Airbus including as Function Competence Manager, IT Product Controller, IT Service Manager and System developer. He has 35 years of varied management responsibilities in the German Navy, software consulting and Aerospace including 17 years IT operations and sourcing, 12 years experiences in vocational training and examination, 6 years of accountability in competence management. He is member of the CEN eSkills workshop and was involved as experts of workgroup member in projects like eJobRoles, eSkills End User Requirements, European eCompetence Framework, ICT Lane and HARMONISE.

Gert DE LAET

Business Development Manager, Cisco Systems

Gert De Laet, CCIE #2657, has both CCIE Security and CCIE Routing and Switching certifications. He has more than 20 years of experience in the Internetworking Business. Gert is currently based in Brussels, Belgium working for the global Learning@Cisco team as theater leader and Business Development Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Russia CIS holding an Engineering degree in Electronics. His main objectives relate to Cisco training and Certifications, Public Private Partnerships, internal/external staff development and staff retention. Cisco solutions continue to grow in technical complexity, yet the skills and knowledge of customer and partner employees are short of the desired state. Gert is leading the charge to provide direction and proper learning paths and resources to help our customers and partners address these challenges up to the expert level.

Gert has extensive authoring experience and collaborated with CiscoPress; authored CiscoPress titles listed: Network Security Fundamentals. A contributing author of CCIE Security Exam Certification Guide (CCIE Self-Study) and CCDA Exam Certification Guide and was a technical reviewer for CCSP VPN Practical Studies, CCIE Security Practice Labs and Network Security Technologies and Solutions, all published by Cisco Press.

Gert is frequently asked to participate in public speaking activities for Industry events such as Cisco Live, Cisco plus, Networkers and M2M events.

Sebastiano TOFFALETTI

Secretary General, PIN-SME

Sebastiano Toffaletti is Secretary General at PIN-SME. In 2007 Sebastiano Toffaletti contributed to fund PIN-SME, the first European association of the ICT sector exclusively focused on representing the interests of SMEs. PIN-SME represents more than 50.000 enterprises, which employ around 200.000 people across Europe. Currently, Sebastiano Toffaletti is also serving as Director at NORMAPME, the European association of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) for standardisation, funded with the support of the European Commission in 1996. The association's members represent 12 Million SMEs in Europe. As an Italian graduated Civil Engineer, Sebastiano Toffaletti holds a Masters Degree in Management from the University of Bologna (Italy) and speaks English, French and Spanish in addition to his mother tongue.

Prof. Dr. Helmut KRCMAR

Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar holds the Chair for Information Systems at the Department of Informatics at Technische Universität München (TUM) since 2002. He is Dean of the Department of Informatics and a member of the Faculty of Business Administration. Since 2004, he is a member of the Program Faculty of the Elite Graduate Program „Finance and Information Management (FIM)“ in the Elitenetzwerk Bayern. Until May 2007, he was Academic Director of the Executive Training Program communication and leadership. Since January 2004, he is Board Member of the Center for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM) at Technische Universität München.

Business Knowledge Consultant, EXIN

Lex Hendriks is Business Knowledge Consultant at EXIN, one of the world’s leading exam institutes in Information Management. With more than 25 years of experience in IT, IT Service Management and training and certification, Lex is a frequent speaker at conferences and author of several publications. As exam program developer he contributed to the ITIL certification program and was one of the architects of EXIN’s IT Service Management program based on ISO/IEC 20000 and other role-based certification programs. As a consultant Lex has been involved in several e-competence related projects, including the e-Skills Quality Label project of the European Commission led by empirica.

Lex Hendriks studied Mathematics at the University of Amsterdam and graduated with a minor in Education. In 1996 he received his PhD in Mathematics and Information Science and since published several scientific papers on computer aided research in mathematical logic and design theory.

Jonathan MURRAY

Director, DIGITALEUROPE

Jonathan is an international strategic and operational leader with 25 years in the finance, non-for-profit, education, public relations and technology & ICT industries.

Jonathan Murray joined DIGITALEUROPE in 2009 in charge of business development, where his first role was to create, manage and deliver an EC funded multi-million campaign - e-Skills Week - across 35 countries and reaching 65 million people. Prior to joining DIGITALEUROPE, Jonathan was Director of Marketing and Sales for the Brussels based European Institute for Industrial Leadership. Previously, Jonathan spent eight years with Equant, an industry leader in ICT services, where as Vice President, he was in charge of business and strategic planning and business development. Prior to that, Jonathan worked for the world's first major international telecommunications alliance (Financial Network Association), in Brussels as Director of Marketing and Business Development, having worked for the France Telecom group in Paris for three years. He started his corporate career with Lloyds Bank International Ltd in the UK, France and Brazil, as a Senior Manager in the trade finance and international capital markets departments. Jonathan holds an MBA from Thunderbird - Global School of International Management, US and also holds a BA (Hons.) in Politics from the University of York, UK. He also attended advanced courses in International Marketing and Advertising at the Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing, in Sao Paulo Brazil. Jonathan speaks English, French and Portuguese fluently. Jonathan is Scottish and lives with his wife and two children in Brussels.

Peter HAGEDOORN

Secretary General, European CIO Association

Peter Hagedoorn (65), M.Sc., received his Master of Science degree in physics from the Technical University Delft, the Netherlands. Upon graduation he completed an internship with the European Commission in Brussels. He worked for Shell International Petroleum Company in The Hague as process technologist and for the Ministry of Economic Affairs in The Hague as civil servant in the departments for Nuclear Energy and later for International Technology Cooperation. In the IT industry he worked for Bull Netherlands, was thereafter a Director of RAET (Dutch software company) and became later an independent organisational consultant / interim manager. In 1997 he was appointed as Director of the Dutch Millennium Platform: the national campaign about the millennium problems. In 2000 he became Chief Information Officer and Vice-President of Hagemeyer (a dutch multinational trading company), and thereafter Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice-President for Océ NV. Peter Hagedoorn started in 2004 with some other dutch CIOs the dutch CIO Platform: the society for CIOs and was 5 years President. He was also member of the Advisory Board of EuroCIO in that period. In 2005 Peter Hagedoorn was awarded with the “CIO-of-the-year Award 2005” for all his CIO activities. Since 2008 he is advisor and/or consultant for several public and private bodies. Amongst others he is: Managing Director of the management consultancy 3Align, president of the Advisory Board of the CIO Platform Netherlands, e-skills Program Director for EuroCIO, President of the CIO Academy Netherlands, Co-chair of the Executive Committee of the European e-skills Association, Chairman of the e-skills TaskForce Netherlands (ended summer 2011). Per November 2011 he is appointed by the Board of the European CIO Association, successor of EuroCIO, as the first Secretary-general of that organisation.

Karl-Heinz HAGENI

Karl-Heinz Hageni has a University Degree in Mathematics and HR Development (MA). For 20 years he was working as a trainer and consultant for Software AG Germany, a global leader in enterprise management software. As a representative of the trade union IG Metall he was involved in several projects on ICT-Skills in the last 10 years including AITTS - Advanced IT Training System in Germany, European e-Competence

Fiona FANNING

Secretary General, CEPIS

Fiona Fanning is Secretary General of CEPIS, the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies and an active member of the European e-Skills community for several years in various capacities. She has been involved in numerous European projects, including the Euro-Inf Project which focused on refining and exploiting Framework Standards and Accreditation Criteria for Informatics Education. She is member of the Executive Committee of the European e-Skills Association (EeSA), a community of industry and stakeholders supporting the development of digital literacy and e-skills in Europe, and is a member of the high level advisory committee of the European Centre for Women and Technology. Fiona has recently led CEPIS’s work in the development of a pan-European framework on ICT professionalism, as well as the professional e-competence programme - an online assessment tool for ICT professionals in line with the European e-Competence Framework. She previously supported the project on European e-Skills Quality Label for industry-based training and certification.

She joined CEPIS in 2007, since then she has been advising on policy issues and representing the organisations interests in the capacity of Senior Policy Advisor, prior to becoming Secretary General. Ms Fanning’s previous positions include owner and Director of Beyond Words Translation Services, Director at the American Red Cross, and Project Manager for an international relief and development organisation operations in West Africa. Fiona Fanning graduated from Dublin City University (Ireland) with a Masters in Translation Studies and a specialisation in Law. She also holds a BA International in French and German and a DEUF from Université Lyon III (France).

Dr. Wolfgang MÜLLER

Director at the Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit

Dr. Wolfgang Mueller is a Director at the Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit, the German Federal Employment Agency. He is currently heading the European Representation and the Special Advisor for European Affairs to the Director General. He is a member of the European Heads of Public Employment Services Network and is representing this Network in the European Qualification Framework Advisory Group, the European Lifelong Guidance Policy Network and the European Vacancy Monitor Advisory Group. He is participating in the European Network of Regional Labour Market Monitoring and member of the European Policy Center Task Forces on “EU Labour Migration Governance” and “Completing the European Single Labour Market”. He is also a member of the national Stakeholder-Forums for the European “Programm for Lifelong Learning” and the European project “Working transitions for the youth”. He was for three years the head of the Working Group on “New Skills for New Jobs” of the European Heads of Public Employment Services Network. Before he joined the German Public Employment Service he worked for the German Government with the United Nations and NATO. He holds a MBA and a Ph.D. in Public Management.

Richard NARINE

Global Director IT Industry, randstad

Richard has 20 years’ professional experience in the IT Industry and holds a Masters Degree in Business Information Systems from Kingston University. He was one of the founding members of Cambridge Technology Partners Europe who pioneered fixed-time fixed-price IT Statement of Work contracts for complex customized software solutions. Throughout his career he has successfully sourced, managed and coached IT teams and clients undertaking or delivering IT solutions. Today Richard focuses on global HR challenges in IT, he works with the world’s leading brands in the IT industry to recommend talent sourcing and mobility solutions for permanent and contingent IT placements. Since joining Randstad in 2006 Richard has actively contributed to the continuous development of Randstad’s MSP and RPO solutions as well as the expansion into emerging markets.

Wallis GOELEN

Head of Unit, DG Employment and Social Affairs, European Commission

Wallis Goelen joined the European Commission from the French National Administration in September 1989. After several years working as administrator in the European Commission's Directorate-General for Customs Union and Indirect Taxation, she moved to the Directorate General for External Relations where she was Deputy Head of Unit for Relations with Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

From 2002 until 2007: she became Head of Unit for EU integration policies concerning people with disabilities within the Directorate General for Employment and Social Affairs. In this position, she was chief negotiator for the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.

On January 1st 2008 she became Head of Unit for Employment Services & Labour Mobility, also within DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities and since June 2012 she has managing the unit in charge of New Skills for New Jobs, Adaptation to Change, Corporate social responsibility, European Globalisation Adjustment Fund.

Wallis holds a degree in Economics from the Paris Sorbonne University a Master in Economics from the French National School of Taxation and a PhD in International Tax Administration from University Paris IX Dauphine.

Ana-Carle PEREIRA

Head of Unit, DG Education and Culture, European Commission

Ana Carla Pereira is Head of Unit for "Skills and qualifications strategies; multilingualism policy" in Directorate General Education and Culture of the European Commission. She is responsible for developing the EU skills strategy, including the implementation of EU tools for recognition and transparency of qualifications such as the European Qualifications Framework, the EU Skills Panorama or the Skills Passport. Her activities have also a particular focus on the development transversal skills such as entrepreneurial initiative, digital skills and language skills. Since the beginning 2013 she is also responsible for EU multilingualism policy. Prior to this, she has worked more than ten years in the implementation of European Employment strategy and several years in the private sector as business consultant specialised in human performance. She has an academic background in economics and European studies. She is Portuguese mother tongue and fluent in English, French and Italian.

Martin ULBRICH

European Commission, DG CNECT

Martin Ulbrich has worked for the European Commission since 1995. Since joining DG INFSO in 1997, he also spent 4 years at the Joint Research Center in Seville, working on information society issues. His current interests include ICT skills and employment, the analysis of the digital economy, and ICT's role in generating economic growth.

Peter O’DONNELL

Journalist and Associate Editor, European Voice

Peter O’Donnell is an EU-accredited Brussels-based journalist who has been covering European affairs for over twenty years. He has worked for The Financial Times, The Sunday Times, Reuters, the Economist Intelligence Unit, UPI, Euronews, and many other media in Europe and beyond. He is a former editor-in-chief of Europe Information Service, and is now associate editor of European Voice.

In addition to his work as a journalist, he acts as editor, editorial adviser and speechwriter for numerous clients in the corporate, political and academic world, and has conceived, created and authored numerous publications for the EU institutions and corporate clients. He also teaches masters in European journalism in Brussels.

He frequently acts as moderator or chairman in European-level conferences and debates, on a wide range of EU-related subjects. He has particular experience in the ICT field: he recently chaired the Hungarian Presidency/European Commission inaugural debate on the Future Internet PPP in Budapest in June; he has also chaired major ICT meetings for previous presidencies and for DG INFSO, as well as events for ETNO and GSMA and for other significant players in e-business and e-government.

André RICHIER

Policy Officer, DG Enterprise and Industry, European Commission

André Richier is Principal Administrator at the European Commission in Brussels within the Directorate General Enterprise and Industry (Key Enabling Technologies and ICT Unit). He is responsible for policy issues relating to the competitiveness of the ICT industry and human capital, in particular the follow up of the Communication on "e-Skills for the 21st Century". He was the 2002-2003 EU Fellow attached to the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas in Austin. He played a leading role in the preparation of the “eLearning: Designing Tomorrow’s Education” Initiative and Action Plan in 2001 within the Multimedia Unit of the Directorate General Education and Culture. In the 1990s, he was in charge of research projects in the field of multimedia within the European Strategic Programme for Research in Information Technology (ESPRIT) of the Commission. Prior to joining the Commission in 1994, he held sales and marketing positions in the ICT industry. He started his career at IBM in 1985.

Tobias HÜSING

Senior Research Consultant, empirica GmbH

Tobias Hüsing is senior researcher and project manager at empirica. He specializes in research and consultancy in e-Skills policies and labour market analysis, innovation policy and knowledge transfer, building on a long-standing experience in empirical research, survey methodology, indicator development, foresight and scenario development, benchmarking and statistical analysis.

Tobias has developed and implemented research methodologies and analysis frameworks in several large scale and cross-cultural empirical research projects and several policy evaluation projects.

His current and most recent activity includes the e-Skills studies "eSkills Quality" and "eSkills Vision", the Knowledge Transfer Study, "e-Skills Monitor" and "e-Skills21", and a study on the use of e-Infrastructures in academic research, "eResearch2020".

Tobias has studied economics and sociology at the University of Cologne.

Werner B. KORTE

Director, empirica GmbH

Werner B. Korte shares the directorship of empirica with Simon Robinson and is responsible for managing many large-scale international research and development and consulting projects in relation to the new forms of work and employment, e-Skills, monitoring and benchmarking the information society, demographic change and ageing, ICT services for energy saving in social housing and public buildings and other topic areas for different DGs of the European Commission (DG INFSO, ENTR, EAC, EMPL), the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, IPTS, national ministries, federal and regional governments and ministries in Germany, other European countries, in Qatar and global IT industry players like Cisco or Microsoft since the 1980s. In the e-skills domain Werner was the project coordinator of the studies ‘Monitoring and Forecasting e-skills Demand and Supply in Europe until 2015’ (2009-2010), ‘Benchmarking study on policies on multi-stakeholder partnerships for e-skills in Europe’ (2007-2008) and responsible for the development of several executive briefings for Cisco Systems. He is currently deployed as project coordinator for the projects ‘e-Skills for Competitiveness and Innovation – Vision Roadmap and Foresight Scenarios 2012-2020’, ‘ Quality Labels for Training Fostering e-Skills for Competitiveness and Innovation’ for the European Commission and another e-skills forecasting project for the ING Belgique Bank.

Anna Maria DARMANIN

Vice President EESC – European Economic and Social Committee

Anna Maria is member of the European Economic and Social Committee representing Malta and was elected in October 2010 as Vice-President of EESC responsible for Communication. Anna Maria has been part of this Committee since Malta’s accession into the EU in 2004. In the committee Anna Maria is active in the areas of innovation, SMEs, Sustainability, Internal Market and Research. She has been a rapporteur for a number of opinions of the EESC including “Research and development: in support of competitiveness”. In Malta Anna Maria is a council member of the Union Haddiema Maqudin and also of the Confederation of Trade Unions (the organisations she represents at the EESC). She is a Training and Development expert in Malta and has also been a partner in various EU funded projects related to People Development and Innovation. Furthermore she was responsible of drawing up reports about the national state of play in areas of innovation and research, particularly for SMEs. She is also a visiting lecturer to the University of Malta. Anna Maria is a graduate in Communication Studies and also obtained her Master of Arts in Human Resource Development.

Dr. Philipp STIEL
